I work in a Title I school district where students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our student population receiving free lunch. As teachers, we are encouraged to incorporate technology into the classroom, as well as create a comfortable learning environment. Working in a low-income school district, it is hard to come across the necessary materials required to enhance student learning and my own teaching style.
My students are often disorganized and I think it is important for them to have an organized classroom.
Many of them do not have the opportunity to learn organization outside of the classroom. Unfortunately, I got a lot of hand-me-downs from other teachers and many of my materials are about thirty years old.
Each day, students walk into my classroom full of energy, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. With that being said, they deserve an environment that keeps them engaged and comfortable.
Many of my students have a high rate of absenteeism. When they miss school, it creates gaps in their learning. There are programs in place at my school to encourage students to attend, but I want to do more for my students. I feel that having my classroom organized will make the environment a positive place to learn.
This will encourage my students to attend school on a regular basis, and will ultimately help reduce absenteeism.
It will also encourage my students to organize their own lives. I believe that one of the most important aspects of a classroom is the way it looks. I can give students information and teach them everything they need to know. But right now when they come into my classroom they see old materials. If I get these bookshelves and storage cubes hopefully I can make my classroom and organized learning environment. I will use the bean bag filler to fill our bean bags from our last project to make comfy seating!
