Bards of Pre-K: Tales of Our Youngest Learners

My students need an iPad, tripod, mount, and projector to record and display our children's stories, ideas, and imagination during play.

My Students

Our school has entered its 10th year. In our Pre-K class, that means over 180 students will have come and gone from this Pre-K classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after-school programs, and summer camp.

Families send their precious children to our class every day for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.

Children make this room their home for however long the stay and miss it dearly when they move on. It's something we take pride in and hope to continue doing what we love to do and that nurtures their love for learning.

I've been teaching at my first and current school for six years. No matter who enters through that door, they are part of our school family. I hope to provide them with the absolute best education we can offer.

My Project

Open up your phone or computer to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and just about any social media platform and you'll see many creators vlogging their daily lives for the world to see. Filter through them and you'll find talented digital storytellers creating beautiful content that inspires millions of followers.

The world as we know it is viewed entirely different from the perspective of a child.

Storytellers narrate stories that range from food, travel, parenting, and so much more. With that in mind, I wonder what kind of stories my pre-K students would tell. How would their story inspire those who view or listen to them? When we view the videos of the creators we subscribe to, we watch to become inspired by people who live life to the fullest.

Paulo Coelho said "Only children believe they're capable of everything." Who better to be inspired by than children doing what they do best; play.

I hope to use the iPad, mount, and tripod to document them during play and capture their conversations, ideas, problems, solutions, and more for the world to see. In pre-K, we believe play is crucial for child development. Play fuels creativity, tickles the inner child, and nurtures the soul.

The videos taken will be viewed and shared on the projector with their peers to spark discussions about things we notice. Children learn a lot from each other through their greatest ideas as well as, in their perspective, their biggest mistakes.

Ever wonder how a child views life and the adventures they go on when they put their backpacks on in the morning and set off for school? Let's see life through their perspective and learn from and become inspired by our youngest storytellers who may not even know they're telling an inspirational story.
