My Project

Eight out of ten of my kids come to school without eating breakfast. They don't love cafeteria food either, and I don't blame them for their lack of motivation for those two reasons. Just fighting that most basic fight is purely physiological.

These kids are hungry!

Nothing motivates them like snacks as a reward. The behavior in my classroom improves by tenfold when I mention the word snack. I am struggling to find leverage with them to encourage them to do the HARDER thing and to delay instant gratification. They don't care about grades or being absent or what their parents will think, but they love food. They end up doing the right thing in class, are rewarded after class, and then look forward to next period. It works, and I'll work it!
