My Students
My students are middle school students, age eleven to fourteen. They dedicate themselves before the school day, during the school day, and even on weekends to our school music program. I conduct five different ensembles in the school, including concert band, jazz band, and marching band. We participate in two annual music competitions; one statewide and one northeast regional. We also perform at our local elementary schools and during our Spring Musical.
In addition to my performing classes, we have students in our Core Music program as well.
These students learn the essentials and foundations of music, such as reading notation, counting rhythms, playing keyboard, and even performing on bucket drums.
My Project
In the band room we are constantly caring for our instruments. Trombonists grease their slides several times a week to keep them lubricated and moving smoothly. This requires students to get cream on their fingers (and all over their hands too!) and then they need paper towels to wipe it off. We go through paper towels very quickly throughout the school year. In addition, my flute players need alcohol swabs to clean their headjoints. We are fortunate enough that each child gets to borrow a flute from the school and is not required to share an instrument, but when one gets broken and we are waiting for a repair, sharing must take place. These alcohol swabs prevent the spread of germs when sharing is a must. Toilet paper is used for many different reasons besides the obvious; as a tissue, as a wipe.
These items are needed to keep the band room germ free and clean.
