This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students marvel over marching bands like watching fireworks. They dream of participating in the school band emulating icons such as Southern University, Michigan State, USC Trojan and Grumbling Marching Bands. However, there is a problem; there are instruments that are missing essential pieces.
Our school community is a multicultural family with diverse learning styles.
It has 800+ students in grades PreK-8th. Drama, visual arts and music are infused in the curriculum for all grade levels. My music scholars are eager to learn! They have not had a music program in two years at our school and are excited about saving this sinking ship.
My Project
With the requested resources, students' lives will be enriched as their capacity of performing music increases. The musical experience will come alive for more students as more instruments are operable. In the birthplace of Jazz, it is only fitting that while students learn and understand the historical and cultural perspectives of music that they also perform it.
The donations of mouthpieces, reeds and valve oil will increase the number of working instruments to save our music program and keep children's dreams alive!
Reading music and interpreting musical styles both individually and collectively in an ensemble is part of the development of scholars. This brings results needed for global education by enhancing academics through music. Research shows that music education increases problem solving, teamwork skills and sensitivity to others.
