Band Camp

Help me give my students the band experience by providing instrument testing materials for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade beginners.

My Project

I just completed my 28th year of teaching band in the same district and school. I love teaching middle level students and giving them the music experience through Band. Middle level students have so much to offer yet many do not know what they are capable of until they try it. I have witnessed many students grow into confident musicians. Band attracts diverse populations and socioeconomic levels to participate and belong. Band has also provided students with emotional support during difficult times as they are able to express themselves and find peace through playing an instrument. My project will allow students to be a part of the band, no matter the grade, by having wind instrument testing kits and testing students.

I would like to start a Middle School Band Camp for students new to Band in grades 6-8.

In this camp, I will use the Jupiter Wind Instrument Kit to test all students for flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and euphonium. The plastic mouthpieces and reed will allow me to properly sanitize and re-use the materials for future camps. Students will be able to choose their instrument to rent or purchase based on their scores and interest.
