This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students come from a background of low income, and struggle daily with all of the hardships that come with that. The area surrounding our school has the highest number of known gang members and a significant number of violent and drug related incidents in our city.

Involvement in band and music saves lives.

It provides a positive and safe environment that equips them with valuable, lifelong skills that extend far outside of the band room. It opens doors and offers opportunities that may not otherwise be realized.

My Project

Over the past 3 years my students and I have built a successful percussion ensemble and contemporary music group at our Title 1 school. The next step is getting our band and orchestra off the ground. To do this, we need help with some basic needs like music stands and music chairs. We don't have an actual music room and move from room to room depending on the day. Carrying music stands back and forth takes away valuable learning time. A wheeled stand rack will make a huge difference in our daily routine and allow for more time playing music.

Band and music saves lives.

In schools like mine, music is sometimes the difference between a student succeeding and not. Help me and my students build our band program by aiding us with some of the basic tools we need.
