What's faster than a speeding bullet? More powerful than a locomotive? Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird...it's a plane...no wait...it's our military students reading in graphic detail! I am a reading specialist in a high need community where 53% of our students are military.
These days it's so hard to keep and hold the attention of our students, especially when it comes to reading. How can books compete with interactive video games, TVs, and Ipods? Our students have discovered something that can. Graphic novels grab our students' attention, yet still provide practice with reading. After a recent survey of our students, we have found that the majority of our students want to read graphic novels. Our problem is that our classroom libraries are not stocked with graphic novels. And the few that we have leaves students waiting several weeks to read the one book.
By providing our students with multiple copies of these fascinating books, our students will no longer have to wait to read them. Plus, they will be able to discuss the books with other friends or the teacher.
Your generous donation will help put these graphic novels in the hands of our military students. By filling our classroom libraries with these books you are ensuring that all students (especially our military students) have great books that they want to read and will no longer have to wait on a list to simply read a book of their choice. Help our military students read in graphic detail!
