Your donation came at exactly the right time and provided us with a much-needed supply of copy paper during a year when our school faced significant budget restrictions.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, my students were able to continue using the printed materials that are such an important part of learning in second grade. They completed reading activities, math practice, writing assignments, science investigations, and hands-on projects without us having to worry about conserving every sheet of paper. Your gift allowed me to focus on teaching instead of constantly wondering how to stretch our limited resources.\r\n\r\nWhat makes your generosity even more meaningful is that your support didn't just help us finish this school year—it also gave us a surplus of paper to begin the next one. Knowing that we'll be able to start the new school year with this essential resource already in place is an incredible gift. It allows me to spend my time planning engaging lessons for my students instead of worrying about whether we have the basic supplies needed to bring those lessons to life.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has had a lasting impact on our classroom, and I am truly grateful for your investment in my students. We've already hit the ground running, and the students are absolutely beaming with pride.\r\n\r\nProject 1: The Bookmark. We kicked things off with a simple but rewarding project. Every student successfully stitched their own bookmark. It was a wonderful way to introduce basic sewing skills, and now our library books are looking extra stylish!\r\n\r\nNext Up: The Keychain. Now that the kids have mastered the basics, we are moving on to something a bit more tactile. We'll be creating personalized keychains to help them practice more intricate shapes and durable seams.\r\n\r\nThe Grand Finale: The Community Quilt. Once our skills are sharp, we will begin our most ambitious task yet. Each student will contribute a square to a massive community quilt. Once finished, this collaborative masterpiece will be permanently displayed in our school library as a symbol of what we can achieve when we work together.\r\n\r\nLearning to sew is about more than just fabric; it's about patience, fine motor skills, and the confidence that comes from creating something from scratch. Many of my students had never seen a sewing machine before this project was funded, and seeing their faces light up when they finished their first bookmark was a moment I wish I could share with all of you.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping us weave together a more creative future.","fullyFundedDate":1757588378786,"projectUrl":"project/sew-in-it-for-the-students/9516147/","projectTitle":"Sew in It for the Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Roach","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4016280_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704742913360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/monicaroach"},{"teacherId":9655291,"projectId":9174384,"letterContent":"My students have truly benefited from your generosity. To supplement the building of our binders, my co-counselor and I are teaching a series of monthly lessons revolving around preparing our 5th grade students for middle school next year. The theme for our November lesson was organization.\r\nDuring the lesson, we introduced the idea of the central binder, a large binder with divided tabs for each of their middle school classes. We walked the students through setting up their binders; organizing each class to have space for a table of contents, notes, and assignments; and deciding what supplies should always be kept on hand in their pencil pouches such as pencils, pens, sticky notes, etc. Their favorite part of the lesson was picking out what color pencil pouch they wanted and receiving their individual, customizable cover pages. \r\nAfter the holidays, we are ready to build on this lesson by practicing maintaining the binder in their 5th grade classrooms for the spring semester. My co-counselor will continue to implement binders and the importance of organization in future lessons, especially our upcoming lessons on middle school class selection.","fullyFundedDate":1758847719668,"projectUrl":"project/preparation-is-key-lets-get-ready-for/9515583/","projectTitle":"Preparation Is Key! Whether they're responding to a reading passage, writing a personal narrative, or drafting an informational piece, the primary lines help them focus on forming letters correctly, using appropriate spacing, and taking pride in their work.\r\n\r\nOne project that really stood out was our personal narrative unit. Students planned their stories, created rough drafts, and then published their final pieces on the new writing paper. It was rewarding to watch them slow down, pay attention to their handwriting, and proudly share their finished stories with classmates. Many of them commented on how \"neat\" their writing looked, and that confidence carried over into future assignments.\r\n\r\n\r\nYou might think paper isn't very exciting, but my second graders were genuinely happy to have writing paper that was made just for them. Several students immediately noticed the larger lines and said it made writing easier. As a teacher, I noticed something even more important—they took greater care with their handwriting. They wanted their work to look its best, and that sense of pride showed in what they produced.\r\n\r\nAs the year continues, we'll be using this paper for a variety of writing activities across all subject areas. Students will write opinion pieces supported with reasons, informational reports based on research, friendly letters, science reflections, and responses to reading. They'll continue building stamina as writers while improving organization, sentence structure, and handwriting. These are skills they'll use far beyond second grade, and thanks to your generosity, they'll have the tools they need to keep growing.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving our students something they'll use every single day.
