This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Students are designing a Bridge in Sketchup with their groups. Students will then transfer their ideas from the computer screen to physical materials.
Students are given a budget for their project and use that budget to acquire construction materials that they use to construct their bridge.
Students account for their labor, materials and constructions costs as they create their masterpiece in an Excel Spreadsheet which they submit along with their project.
Students are trying to understand how loads are transferred in the bridge structure to provide the ability to see how structures resist breaking and support loading. Students build over the course of two weeks and then we load them in class using sand, and a loading apparatus suspended from their selected location on the bridge.
