This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students are excited to learn and cooperate in class. They learn the importance of healthy eating habits and physical activity. They are also learning about important health topics and are actively engaged in teamwork to improve skills and performance. They are learning to be healthy for life.

Our school is a predominantly Hispanic urban school in Austin with about 509 students.

Many students are economically disadvantaged. My students are eager to learn. They love to show their parents their progress and success. My students work hard to improve themselves in academics as well as in fitness. The kids at our school are a fun group who love to be physically active and are not afraid to share ideas and knowledge.

My Project

My students need 12 basketballs and 15 soccer balls in order to reach a total of 135 or more minutes of physical activity per week. The materials I am requesting will be used for the Working out for Wellness program (WOW) and Physical Education class. Students will learn skills using a cooperative Physical Education curriculum which includes dribbling, kicking, throwing, and catching. Kids will be physically active for a total of 135 or more minutes per week through Physical Education and WOW time in order to fulfill the Texas Education Code. Students will learn both cardiovascular activity and skill practice. Students will also cooperate and have fun.

Students in my class are taught a cooperative learning program which allows them to interact and socialize with their peers, challenging their skills and obtaining success together.

In my class, they are acquiring social skills and attitudes that are necessary for life outside of the classroom.
