I am one lucky teacher to work with a classroom of preschool students on the autism spectrum. I have been given the challenge and wonderful opportunity to teach my students how to communicate effectively, play cooperatively together, and how to express their emotions appropriately with replacement behaviors.
My students learn through music, dramatic play, fine motor, gross motor, sensory integration, and hands-on activities.
They love our classroom pets, art, blocks, games, puzzles, housekeeping, table time, science, circle time, and physical activities. I want to give my students every opportunity possible to meet their individualized needs to communicate, socialize, and behave appropriately in a safe, fun, loving environment.
My Project
My students love to play outdoors on the playground and on the grass area. We need more grass area activities and materials to explore. Having the nets and bug catchers will encourage our students to look for ladybugs and butterflies while playing outdoors. My students can play ball on the grass with each other taking turns, making teams, and learn how to kick and throw a ball appropriately. All preschoolers love chalk to color and draw and bubbles to pop and dance under.
Having these FUN items on the grass during recess will build language, social skills and assist with positive behaviors.
These items will also help improve each child's gross motor skills and exploration motivation.
We would love to have these items to use outside on the playground grass area at our school.
