Ballet for Justice: A Multicultural Dance Project for Young Changemakers

My Project
My first graders are full of energy, imagination, and empathy—and they love to move! This winter, we’re launching a special project that brings together the art of ballet, classical music, and powerful children’s literature to create a student-led performance centered around themes of kindness, inclusion, and social justice. With your support, we’ll stage a beautiful ballet at our school’s winter assembly, featuring all students in meaningful, expressive roles that reflect their diverse identities.
Our students will read, reflect, and choreograph short ballet scenes inspired by these stories, showcasing not just technique, but the values we want to see in the world: fairness, compassion, and unity.
To bring this vision to life, we need a class set of ballet shoes and basic ballet gear (like tights and skirts), a portable CD player, a collection of classical music, and inclusive picture books featuring children of color and diverse backgrounds in dance and leadership roles.
This project will give every child, regardless of income, the chance to experience the grace and discipline of ballet while seeing themselves represented in the arts. Your donation will help students feel proud, seen, and inspired to express their voices through movement and storytelling. Thank you for helping us dance toward justice!
