Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dedicated group of girls who don't take anything for granted. Unfortunately, they don't have a lot of resources they can go to in order for them to get the things they need. They show up every day with the same basketball shoes, jerseys, and athletic gear they had since they started playing years ago. They never ask for the materialistic things because they don't expect them, coming from not so good homes. This has made them who they are today and they deserve to have what they have been working so hard for.
This team and program are filled with very dedicated young women and they are in need of new materials for them to become better athletes, people, and students.
With these new materials, they will be able to become successful in life and will experience some satisfaction they have been looking for their whole lives.
These girls and this program have come a long way to get where they are today. They don't have very good home lives so they rely on this sport and each other. It would be nice to reward them for what they have done for their high school.
My Project
We are in need of a set of newer basketballs to accommodate our growing program. We have recently made the transition from practicing outside to now being inside the gym. We had to use some basketballs for outdoor use during the pandemic stage, and so there has been some basic wear and tear on these basketballs from being outside. So now that we are back indoors we want to give our girls the new resources they need to be successful. And thanks to DonorsChoose and Dick’s Sporting Goods we are able to do so at half the cost.
