This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I will begin this lesson with circle time to get the kids thinking about their relationships with social media and digital tools. This will help them to relax, feel comfortable and will help them to engage in conversations. Then, students will journal and reflect on the discussion where I hope they dive into personal experiences with technology. I will use the desk organizers and crates to store the notebooks.

After the conversation and journaling activity, I will take a snack break because children are most productive, creative and happy when they are not hungry.

Throughout the lesson, I will refer to the motivational posters to inspire students to keep the key motivational ideas of grit, balance and growth mindset at the forefront of their minds and when we finish journaling and discussing we will then create our own motivational posters about healthy digital habits. This way the students will have some ownership over their own motivation. Between the discussion, the journaling and the poster creation my students are going to develop healthy and positive mindset about technology and digital skills. If I can extend the activity, I can even ask them to create a digital poster! I can't wait to start!

My students are hopeful, smart and have so much to contribute to each other and to our society and this project is a fantastic way to encourage them to journal more and to develop healthy digital habits for the rest of their lives.
