Balancing Birds, Face Masks and Tools to Learn Physics!

Help me give my students earbuds, face masks, expo markers, lamination pouches and balancing birds so they can have the tools they need to safely learn physics!

My Students

Remember the magic of science class when you were growing up? Physics opens up a world of wonder and excitement for young minds. While learning important concepts, we get to have fun with the coolest toys in school.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and, from the start, I try to instill a sense of wonder and awe in science in every student.

Some of my students arrive from very affluent neighborhoods, while others have just arrived in this country and face many challenges in getting acclimated to school. In my classes, I have more than 20% economically needy students. 43% of the students at my high school are on free/reduced lunch.

The magic of physics comes alive in my room with interactive projects, hands-on labs, and mind-blowing demos that reveal deep misconceptions most of us have about how things work. On the first day of school, my students work together to try to understand how Lenz's Law works (without ever having been taught the concept). It's amazing to see the ideas that sprout forth on that first day. From then on, they are constantly challenged and must defend their positions with evidence.

My Project

For this project , I am requesting tools so my students can safely be together and learn physics concepts. Many of my students need earbuds on a daily basis for online learning through their computers. In the past I have purchased these items on my own. I am asking for a little help in providing my students with new earbuds. I am also asking for a couple boxes of face masks for any students who need/want them. I have my students working together on small whiteboards and we go through a large amount of expo markers throughout the year. In addition, I laminate many things so they can be cleaned and wiped off between classes so I am requesting laminating pouches. For a few projects (physics Olympics events), I provide glue and so I am requesting some super glue.

Finally, when I teach about rotation and equilibrium, I always like for the students to be able to experience the effect for themselves with toys in the lab.

That is why I have a variety of balancing toys in this project.
