Learning to read under the Balanced Literacy method, requires that students read "just right" books at their assessed reading level. When students read at the appropriate level, they can learn to decode, comprehend and find the joy of reading independently.
My students attend a large urban public school.
They represent a wide diversity of cultures, but all have the love of learning as a common thread. 2nd graders are curious about the world around them and are full of wonder. My students enjoy reading, challenging math problems, and science.
My Project
It would be great to have a big collection of leveled books for my students to read. A wide range will accommodate all of my students reading levels. Research says that children who have a choice in what they read will read more and that means they will progress faster.
Your generous donation WILL make a difference for my students.
From this point on, instead of learning to read, they will read to learn. Building reading skill levels upward will make this all possible!
