Balance Throughout Life

Help me give my students the ability to participate in balance and yoga exercises to improve their balance, a balance beam to improve their coordination, and a hopscotch mat to help them combine locomotor and object manipulation skills.

My Students

I am an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, who works with about fifty students throughout six different schools in the Alpine School District. As an adaptive physical education teacher, I have the opportunity to help these students master gross motor skills that will help them be successful in the general physical education curriculum.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing my students accomplish their goals and feel a sense of an accomplishment.

When they finally get that feeling, it is incredible to see the smile on their face!

My Project

Balance and coordination are two of the most beneficial skills when it comes to physical education. The items I have chosen will help all of my students improve in these areas and be prepared for the general physical education curriculum.

The balance beam will help students learn to navigate uneven surfaces and utilize their core to maintain posture while moving.

The hopscotch mat will allow students to exercise overhand and throwing skills while also working on jumping from one foot to two feet, again focusing on balance. The yoga mats give students the unique opportunity of learning to position and balance their bodies in order to increase strength and stamina.

Overall, these items will improve my students physical education experience!
