My students need adjustable balance ball chairs. The chair is on lockable wheels, has adjustable back support, balance ball and air pump.

My Students

The students I work with are mostly freshman. I work with both special education and general education students. Students who are labeled special education make up 20% of the student population. The student body is comprised of a diverse population and high poverty: 43% white and 57% minority. 65% of out students come from families of low socioeconomic status.

Despite the many hardships and disadvantages my students and their families face, many of the 1,100+ students come to school ready to learn.

The students are surrounded by a body of teachers who work hard to help them achieve the students own personal greatness.

My Project

Students are asked to sit still in a hard plastic chair for over 7 hours each day. For many of these teens, the pent up energy turn into behavior issues that negativity impact their learning as well as the learning of their peers. My hope is to offer flexible seating.

Giving students the autonomy to choose their seating empowers them to take ownership of their learning.

Sitting on the balance balls is better for the students backs and hips while engaging the students core muscles. Balance balls allow students to release some energy in a way that does not take away from their own learning or their peers.
