Baking and Math

Help me give my students baking items to facilitate math learning in our classroom.

My Project

Learning multiplication can be a very arduous task for students. Many students resort to memorizing fluency facts without ever having a deep conceptual understanding of multiplication. To change this monotonous learning, I have introduced baking in the class.

Baking allows students to truly understand what measuring, fractions, multiplication and division truly looks like.

For example, if they only have a 1/3 cup at their disposal, and a recipe calls for 1 and 1/3 cup of flour, they'll be able to deduce that they need four 1/3 cups. When math becomes meaningful, students authentically learn.
