I would like my students to each have a Chair Bag to hang on the back of their chairs. At the beginning of the school year, I individually tested each child to see what level they were reading on. The children tested from the beginning kindergarten level through fourth grade. In each bag I will place three books on the child's reading level. They will be allowed to select three books of their choosing. Also in the bag will be a response journal where they will complete a written activity as they finish their book. If the books were in a bag hanging on their chair, each child would have their books readily available without having to get out of their seats. I have requested a few extras bags in case I get any new students. I teach second grade and I have 16 children in my class. I teach at Lockhart School in Lockhart, SC. We are a public school with grades kindergarten through the twelfth grade. I have been teaching at this school for the past 32 years. We are a very family oriented school. Lockhart is a very rural town. Most of the parents work outside the county since we have the highest unemployment rate in the state. Having these books available for the children to read throughout the year will greatly improve their reading ability. We would really appreciate anyone willing to buy these bags for us.
