Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The vast majority of students are first-generation immigrants who are striving to become the first in their families to attend a university in the United States. They are living through the struggles of first-generation immigrants and have become the physical embodiment of the sacrifices their parents and guardians have had to endure.
Even though they face these challenges, these students have volunteered their limited time to their community and neighborhoods.
Many have started participating in organizations to help the homeless, clean and beautify parks and beaches, as well as mentor elementary students to achieve higher academic success.
My Project
As odd as it sounds, when I award my high school seniors, 16, 17 ,18 year olds, with a good job sticker or a gold star, their eyes instantly light up. A simple acknowledgement works tremendously well in motivating students to learn and persevere, even if they too proud to admit it.
As effective as stickers are, having physical buttons they can attach to their back packs will serve as a tremendous badge of pride, showcasing their accomplishments.
Similar to how college football players place impact stickers on their helmets to show how important they are to the team, these 1 inch buttons will show how successful they have been in their academic classes.
