it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of us take for granted the small things in life; feeling so excited on your first day of school, wearing your new school clothes and carrying your new back pack. Our students at Midland Park Primary don't have this feeling. Most of them don't have a backpack to carry their supplies.
Midland Park Primary School is preschool through first grade.
Our students don't always have much, but they are so excited to come to school and learn. They arrive at 6:50 am, with big smiles on their faces as they had head down to class, waving and saying hello to teachers that they pass along the way. Our school is a title 1 school, located in a low economical area. So our students do not always have the money to buy a new backpack or replace a backpack that has broken. Our students are too little to be responsible enough to carry supplies, home work, or paper work, home to their parents. By supplying them with a backpack, this will ensure that their much needed items will arrive home safe and sound.
My Project
I am the guidance counselor at Midland Park Primary. One of my goals for this school, is to make sure that every child that comes through our doors feels comfortable. Whether it is getting them school supplies, clothes, food, or something as simple as a back ack. Whether it is getting a new students in the school or a child's bag breaks and their mother cannot afford a new one. I want our school to be able to give the students what their parents are unable to afford. We never want a student feeling inferior to the other students. We want them to concentrate on their school work and not on what they do not have.
Sometimes it is the little things in life that make us feel good.
By just giving a student a backpack, you can make them feel better about themselves and make sure that they will do well in school. A backpack will ensure that school materials are making it home to parents.
