My students need new backpacks for the school year to carry their books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day. On average, 2-3 students in my classroom are considered homeless and struggle to find suitable housing. They qualify for assistance through The McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.
I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors to provide these supplies.
My Project
Since so many of my students are from very low income households and a few each year are classified as homeless, I would like to have backpacks for my students who do not have them this school year.
After receiving new backpacks, the students can request a new backpack and priority will be given to those students who do not have one, or whose backpacks are ripped, torn or have zippers that no longer work.
With your help, we can give students new backpacks for the school year, so they can more easily carry their books.
Thank you for considering this project for my 5th grade students. We appreciate it.
