Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hi, I am a first grade teacher in a low income school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Most of my students are on free or reduced lunch. We are a Character Education school, spending large amounts of time teaching good character and random acts of kindness. Like most people, our school population is devastated by the current situation concerning the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Our school has already begun to collect money for the Red Cross. My students brainstormed ways in which they could help the children affected by the hurricane and flooding. We thought of many different ways to help, including bringing in some gently used toys. In this proposal, my class would like to provide backpacks and other school supplies to some of the children evacuated from the gulf coast. These children have lost everything, so having a new backpack and other school supplies will surely make them feel they fit in to their new school environment. From the bottom of all of our hearts, thank you.
