Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Jose, is in his senior year here at Workman High School. He is heavily involved with Boy Scouts of America. Jose is leading a program to help 60 children that are in the foster care system. Jose is going to supply all 60 foster care children with backpacks that will be filled with school supplies. The included items will be the backpack, notebooks, pens, pencils, binders, colored pencils, markers, erasers, sharpener, and crayons. These are essentials items for a child to have for school and sadly they do not have them. Jose is filling an incredible need and requires the help of other people to make this all happen.
This project will help supply foster kids with some basic materials most take for granted. In Their Own Words
The goal is to help the community with the foster children that do not have basic materials which are needed for success. This is about giving kids supplies that they will need to further their education without worrying about the burden of buying new supplies that they may not be able to afford.
Many of the people who will be helping in this project will be my immediate family, school teachers and administrators here at Workman High school, some of the student body of Workman High School will lend their help. As well as some of the local business and corporations in the surrounding area.
This project is important to me because I see the need of these children who are in the foster care system. I am also a Youngman who is a part of the foster care system. I have been fortunate to have been placed in a loving family and have been with them for the last four years. I know that what I have is unique and not every foster child is placed in a loving family that supplies the child with what they need. I want to help bridge that gap. I want to give back since I have been so blessed.
