My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
Some are vocal and extroverted, while some students are quiet and introverted. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and flexible seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met. They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to call myself their teacher.
My Project
Many students struggle to sit in a traditional classroom desk and a hardback chair. This often leads to inattentiveness and disruptions. Over the years, I have implemented flexible seating in my classroom. Currently, we have 2 high top tables (for sitting or standing), 2 kitchen tables, and 2 coffee tables. Students can choose to sit on wobble stools, office-type wheelie chairs, a loveseat, bouncy donuts, or pillows.
Flexible seating has been proven to lead to better behavior, stronger student engagement, and overall participation.
While the students at the tables have the support they need, the students at the coffee tables often lack seating with back support. I am asking for donations to provide these students with a stadium type floor chair in order to provide the back support they need.
