My Project

My 9th graders are energetic, creative, and eager to learn. They are adjusting to in-person school during a pandemic. They are navigating life and relationships after being quarantined for over a year.

There are major deficits in reading, math, and emotional intelligence; however, this group of students is committed to bridging the gap between what they know and what they need to know, and I am honored to guide them.

The pandemic forced students to learn remotely using digital EVERYTHING. While some students thrived, our most vulnerable, at-risk students did not. The literacy gap grew wider. Students have repeatedly expressed the desire to have literacy materials in printed form.

Diminishing resources have made it difficult to provide students with a hard copy that they can highlight and interact with, this project would give students just that.

Being able to print and make copies using a dependable machine from an accessible location within my classroom would enhance teaching and learning. Students will benefit tremendously without the added challenge of only digital texts.

Furthermore, students are lacking basic supplies such as pencils. I want to be able to provide pencils and a way to sharpen them.
