My Students

I teach a classroom full of 28 Second Graders. I am beyond lucky to have such an engaging, motivating, and hardworking class. We are constantly modeling for others our positive behavior. A classroom camera would help us take photos of this. We can also use it to capture photos of student growth!

My school is located in California.

My students all live in high poverty. We are the lowest 10% in all the United States based on academic achievement and attendance. Our kids receive 100% free lunch and live in the projects across the street. School is a place where they feel engaged and want to learn. We are an inclusive-practices school, where all of our students with disabilities are included in the general education classrooms. Our school is focused on providing a safe, respectful environment for ALL students to learn. We place an emphasis on social and emotional learning in order to provide our students with the skills they need to be successful at school and in life.

My Project

My students are responsible, respectful and hardworking. The follow each procedure taught and I let them know they are my role models. I would like a camera to be able to take photos of students participating in positive situations. I can then share the photos during our second step lesson which teaches kids about behavior, emotions, and social skills. We are always looking at pictures of students in other classrooms, however, what would be more real then capturing photos of students within our classroom and discussing positive behaviors through photos. Another way we want to use this camera is to take pictures of student art work, student writing and science observations. My goal is to create student portfolios through digital photos. This way their parents will always have a picture of their yearly progress. It is wonderful to witness student growth in the work they do. The kids so show much pride and what better way than to capture that moment in a color photo!

Through our everyday conversations, the kids continue to surprise me when you see the shock look of something they have never recognized before.

Many of them have never owned a camera. I go into their homes and there aren't any pictures of them. I would like to capture multiple moments and provide a portfolio of pictures for their families to keep forever. Most of them struggle to provide food and clothing. this will be a keepsake for them and students will feel the joy of their prideful days!
