This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
How would you like to sit on a wobbly, unsafe chair at work each day? My students face multiple challenges each day such as poverty, parental unemployment, health care and sometimes lacking skills and supplies needed to begin school. I need a very basic item for them, CHAIRS! Mine are destroyed!
I teach Four-Year-Old-Kindergarteners in a large urban public school district in Wisconsin.
Roughly 70 percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My 27 students attend full-day K4. I have some special needs students and some students who come to school speaking little or no English. In my classroom the children learn Spanish as a Second Language (foreign language) that I integrate into all subject areas. My school has wonderful parents who participate in their child's educational experiences and value education as an important part of their child's success in the future. Each day we do small groups with the Special Education classroom for 1 hour so we have additional students who are integrated into our daily activities. Because my K4 program is "Board-Funded" and K4 is not required by Wisconsin law, we receive no additional funds for anything. My students are the best and they deserve to have safe chairs to sit on as they learn. They spend five hours of their day in my room.
My Project
I really need 30 safe chairs for my students! I was only able to order 17 for my project because I did not have enough points to order 30 on DonorsChoose due to the point system. The chairs I have are from the late 80's or early 90's. They are wood and the varnish has rubbed off. When we wash them the cloth NEVER looks clean so I know dirt and germs are soaking into the wood. They are unsanitary and unsafe. Many of the chairs wobble because they are falling apart. The chairs are all different sizes. We are always playing "musical chairs" because the chairs are all different heights. I would just like to have a clean and safe place for my children to learn. They spend part of their day sitting at tables for doing work, snack and small groups every day.
The solution I am looking for is a donor to support my children and their education. They are wonderful children with excellent attendance. Doesn't every parent want a safe learning environment for their child? A chair is a BASIC item!

They are wonderful children with excellent attendance. Our budget was cut by $333,000 so my Principal cannot help. What we really need are safe and appropriate-sized chairs for the children to sit at. They would be an investment that would provide a clean, safe learning environment for children for the next 20 years. Thank you for your time and consideration! My children deserve the best!
