Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a diverse, first grade, integrated, collaborative teaching (ICT) class, with a combined mixture of general and special education students at a large, high-needs, Title I school in the north Bronx. Although most students come from low-income homes or homes with limited parental school involvement, they are enthusiastic and truly come to school every day, ready to learn. These children see school as a consistent part of their daily lives and strive daily to make me proud.

My class of first graders is some of the happiest children I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Not only do several of them struggle with unstable home lives, but many cope with various disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and speech and language impairments. These kids inspire me to provide the best education I can for them.

My Project

We are very excited that the 2021-22 school year will be back to fully in-person learning. We will need an abundance of supplies to help the students make the transition back to school, such as crayons, glue sticks, scissors, supply baskets, pencils and construction paper. To comply with COVID safety protocols, each student will be getting their own materials to reduce the need for sharing and exposure to germs. We are also requesting individual whiteboards, dry erase markers and erasers for each student. What I especially like about these boards is that one side has lines and the other is blank, so students can practice their handwriting using the lines. We use whiteboards a lot so this is a valuable resource for us. We also need folders for students to keep their work organized. Different color folders will represent various subjects. We also need the Post-It anchor chart paper to display concepts taught as a visual resource for the students.
