Help me give my students classroom sets of supplies that they commonly need to share, replacements of supplies that are frequently used for classwork and labs and snacks since most students come to school hungry.
Our public school serves a diversity of students from all over the greater Boston area. A part of our mission is to matriculate students who become leaders of sustainability in their communities and who are scientifically literate. A full eighty-two percent of our students fall at or below the poverty line, and each one of our students should have equal access to scientific experiences that will allow them to be agents of change in their communities. It is my goal and responsibility to introduce students to twenty-first century skills and help them develop these skills throughout the school year.
My Project
Can you believe we are already planning for next school year? In order for students to do their best work next fall, my students need refills of basic supplies that they frequently use. These items include pencils, rulers with the metric system for graphing their lab results, tape for the interactive and collaborative projects, a hole punch that is strong enough to hole punch unit packets so students can stay organized, plastic bags that are frequently used to store pieces of labs and projects that take multiple days to complete, and snacks to provide hungry students so that they can focus on learning with a satiated stomach!
These supplies would immensely help students to focus on learning and to prepare them fully to do their best work.
When students have the proper supplies, they can cut down on time wasted that was previously used on sharing supplies and working on limited resources. These supplies would help to increase time on task instead of time wasted waiting around for supplies.
