This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Back to school is on full force which means materials are needed to start off the year successfully. My school district is facing a budget deficit of over $100 million for the next school year. This means there will be about $50 million that will directly be cut from our school sites which will cause schools to have to make tough decisions about how they use the little funding they will be given. These cuts will deeply affect schools abilities to support their teachers in purchasing classroom materials and supplies for the upcoming year.
My goal for this project is to have all materials for students ready so they can have a fun and successful start of the year.
These materials will help my students independently practice skills they learned during the mini lessons. Whether that be practicing math strategies on their whiteboards, using bookmarks with helpful reading strategies, grabbing spelling tools when they get stuck, modeling with math mainpultives, or editing their writing with pens and whiteout. All of these supplies typically come out of my own paycheck and with your help I'll be able to supply my classroom with necessary materials without having to worry about my own financial stability through another year of budget cuts and staffing shortages.
