My Students

I am a first year teacher working at a Title I, Expanded Learning Time School. My first grade students come from various cultures, income-levels, and experiences. Due to low income/poverty, our students all recieve free breakfast, lunch, and snack.

Despite the challenges many of my students face on a daily basis, my students come to school with an enthusiasm and love for learning!

As I look around my classroom, I see 13 very unique personalities, all with different learning styles and needs. As a first year teacher, I want to give my students everything I can, in order for them to succeed. I love watching my students grow as learners. I know that with the right tools, I can watch them soar higher than I ever expected!

My Project

My current classroom does not have a bulletin sized white board. The big portable white board will allow me to support students during whole group lessons, no matter where they are doing their learning.

The money/time/addition and subtraction flashcards will be used for small group station activities or for early finishers.

Money and time are skills that are needed in everyday life. First grade is all about mastering addition and subtraction facts. These materials will be super helpful to reinforce daily lessons surrounding these concepts.

I always loved reading scholastic news as a child. I want to be able to bring interesting science concepts to the classroom while also integrating reading comprehension and writing. Being familiar with the multiple choice format will be helpful for later down the road when state testing occurs.

Lastly, I want to bring a math-centered morning calendar into my classroom. During morning meetings, I always try to incorporate learning. This calendar allows students to practice with number lines, money, tallies , and weather. This would be a perfect learning tool for our morning routine.
