This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach the absolute best students from 9th grade through the age of 21. I teach a Moderate Intellectual Special Needs class. We have students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Schizophrenia, Visually Impaired, in wheel chairs, and those who are physically and mentally impaired. Each student is unique and special in his/her own way.
Our student work hard, try their best, and never give up and when it's all said and done, they have taught me much more than i will ever teach them.
It is encouraging to see our Autism students who would not speak a word and would throw things, and can now come up to give you hugs, speaking few word, and can start minimally verbalizing their wants and needs.
My students are loving, fun, helpful, cheerful, comedians, and much much more. To see the general education population accept and have compassion for my students warms my heart. I love seeing my students bring out the compassion, friendship, and responsibility from students who are typically otherwise known as behaviorally challenged students. My students do not judge and accept everyone for who they are and they are accepted for all their uniqueness.
My Project
Our class goes through a multitude of crayons, color pencils, pencils, erasers. Being Special Needs students, most of our students are particular that their pencils and color pencils needs to have an sharp to almost sharp tip. Once it dulls, they go to sharpening. Also, when erasing, they want to make sure it is erased completely so we go through lots of erasers in a year.
We teach our kids to do their best and be their best.
If that means using more pencils, erasers, crayons, and color pencils, then that's okay. I always teach them to do their best.
An Agenda would also be helpful in the classroom to have daily contact with the parents. It would also help us keep parents informed of weekly word lists, upcoming events, weekly goals, and goal performance.
