My Project

As we gear up for a new school year, one of the most important things I can do for my students is create a classroom that’s well-stocked, welcoming, and ready for learning from day one. This DonorsChoose project focuses on the basic supplies that keep our high school science classroom running smoothly all year long.

Items like pencils, erasers, and a classroom pencil sharpener ensure that every student comes to class ready to engage, even if they weren’t able to bring their own materials.

Glue sticks, duct tape, and double-sided tape allow students to participate in interactive activities like building models or creating posters without delays or interruptions.

Laminating sheets help preserve key visual resources so they can be reused year to year, while label maker tape keeps our supplies organized and accessible. We’re also requesting weigh boats, which are essential for accurate measurements in our chemistry and physical science labs. These also let students have a similar experience in labs to what they would have in higher education.

And because we know students can’t learn well on an empty stomach, we’ve included granola bars—a small but meaningful way to support students who may come to class hungry or need a quick energy boost during the day. In my first year teaching, I found that a small snack during the day can be all it takes for a student to succeed, especially if that is their first bit of food since the previous Friday or that day.

These supplies might seem simple, but they’re the foundation for a calm, prepared, and productive classroom. With your help, we can start the year strong and ensure that every student feels supported and equipped to learn.
