It is the start to the new year so it is time to replenish some resources! My lovely students made great use of the materials provided last year, so they need to be restocked.
These are essential materials that students will use on a daily basis!
Pens, mechanical pencils, and pencils - Students are often in need of a writing utensil and they are not all created equal. All of these are options that do not need to be sharpened when they are first given to the student.
Tissues - Students rarely bring tissues to contribute to the classroom, primarily for financial reasons. We also don't have space in our budget for tissues. Students recognize when they are being cared for and it sends a message to them that they are important and valued when they have what they need to be comfortable.
Paper towels - We have very ineffective paper towels in the school and spills happen. It is important for students to clean up their own messes and this becomes a challenge when we don't have the supplies for cleaning up inside the classroom. I want students to take responsibility for their mistakes rather than pass the task to the janitor. Without the proper materials to clean up, students will hide spills, walk away, or use resources that don't actually clean the mess (ex: wipes). This has caused issues and resulted in students thinking it is easier to just leave rather than clean their messes.
Notebooks help students group their notes which is particularly important during the transition to middle school. Loose leaf paper is much more accessible than spiral notebooks, but notebooks are easier to manage. These will be the daily notebooks students use in Spanish class!
