My students come from a very diverse population and attend a public Montessori school in a high poverty neighborhood. Within our school community all students are provided with free breakfast, lunch and a healthy snack each day. In our school we foster students who are responsible, independent and creative.
"Maria Montessori believes, education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquire by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment." My students take responsibility for their learning by self managing their individualized work.
They can work in a group, with a partner, or even by themselves to complete differentiated work plans. Our classroom is full of students who are active in their learning and who are preparing to be active citizens within their community.
My Project
Montessori is all about meeting the students at their level and teaching the whole child.
In order for the year to start off with a bang I want to have all the materials my students need for literacy workshop.
Balance literacy is a very important aspect of our workshop and these materials would provide us the opportunity to be successful.
We need a laminator to preserve our word work and comprehension materials we use in class. My students work on the floor and need a hard surface to write on, these clip boards will provide them a personal desk in order to complete their work. We need composition notebooks for our reading and writing notebooks. The chart paper and markers will be used every mini lesson to teach a new skill and will get hung up in the room for the students' reference. The bins will be used to organize our library based on reading level. A Montessori classroom is a very busy place! The more organized we can be the better.
