Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Students are from a school that has 93% of students on free or reduced lunch. Many of the students at the school have attended two or more schools in their elementary years.

Our city has recently been hit with severe flooding due to Harvey.

Our school start date has been delayed two weeks to allow the city time to recover from flooding. Many of our schools, students, and teachers have been impacted by the flooding.

I am teaching a Dual Language class so half of the students in my class speak Spanish at home. School is the best place for my students to practice their speaking skills. The students in the class will benefit from working together while practicing their language skills.

My Project

The math workstations are tied to the state learning objectives. The math games and learning centers will allow the students to practice math and speaking skills in my Dual Language class. I also selected art paper to incorporate art into our learning activities. The ink will be used when the students publish their writing.

The math resources are interactive, independent activities that will help promote speaking skills, problem-solving, and cooperation.

The resources will help make the class exciting and will help build our class community. Students tend to learn more when they are allowed to work with the material in a fun way.

These materials will also provide a distraction from any negative effects due to the recent flood.
