This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are in an urban school. In our Title I school, more than 85% of our population receives free breakfast and lunch. We also offer a dinner program for all children in our neighborhood. Many of our students come from difficult backgrounds. In spite of their situations, our children are eager learners and are extremely creative. As of the school year 2016-2017, our SOL test scores continue to grow. Our teachers and students are diligently working toward full accreditation.
My Project
Many of our hard working students come to school without their needed daily school supplies. Starting a new school year with pencils, folders, paper, and markers will make this transition so much easier. We also need an electric pencil sharpener and timers for classroom use.
Our children want to come to school to learn and be engaged in all activities.
Starting a new school year is both exciting and terrifying for many students. Coming into a brand new classroom, already set up, organized, and inviting, decreases their anxiety. As a teacher, you want your eager learners to be excited about new adventures, meeting new teachers and friends, learning new materials, and working to their full potential.
