Help me give my students portable cushions for flexible seating, wobble chair feet for seating that can help increase focus and decrease anxiety, as well as table bins for storage!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I work with come from a very low-income neighborhood in the Bronx, New York. I work in a second grade Integrated Co-Teaching classroom as a Special Education Teacher. In this setting, approximately 40% of the students are students with disabilities and have Individualized Learning Plans, while the other half of the students are general education students. During the pandemic, many of these students, especially the ones with IEP's, struggled with the remote aspect of learning for various reasons. Understanding that every child learns differently is crucial to teaching and it is expected that there will be more gaps in the student's learning due to the pandemic. As we plan to get back to some sort of normalcy, we understand that this year our needs, as educators, will also look different.
My students are excited to be back in school and are eager to learn, however, they have expressed that they have a difficult time with focusing, cutting, writing and problem solving.
Using this information, we will continue to strive for excellence in our students by making learning fun, engaging, but also challenging them to be the best they can be. We look forward to what this year brings!
My Project
Students will sometimes get distracted in class, but with the use of wobble chair feet or bouncy bands, students can release their energy in a less disruptive and appropriate way!
These materials will make a difference in our students’ learning because they will give them the tools that they need to stay focused, decrease anxiety and become successful!
Having storage bins at their tables will also help them get organized and stay neat. These students could really use these materials to guide them by staying on task, with less distractions and complete any classroom assignments!
