This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of our students are new immigrants and English language learners. Some of them come to the country by themselves and have no immediate family as caretakers. Most often they work at nights and weekends to be able to afford a meal and basic necessities.
Irrespective of the challenges my students face, they are determined, hardworking and focused individuals who are always curious and seeking to learn more.
They work hard to adjust and adapt to a new language, a new community culture, a new school environment, and a whole new system with a positive attitude that is motivating and inspirational. These teenagers are here to make a better life for themselves and for those like them all over the world.
My Project
Back to school comes with a lot of stress and anxiety for many students, especially those students who are still in the process of acquiring English. As 9th grades teachers, my colleagues and I would like to relieve our students of some of this stress by providing basic school supplies at the start of the year.
We ask for supplies such as binders, pocket folders, highlighters, index cards and more that students need for all of their classes.
Through this project, we will be able to give each student 4 plastic pocket folders for each of their core classes, index cards for learning science vocabulary, one highlighter per student and have enough spare notebooks and binders for students who might need them from us. We will also be able to make enough copies of materials for the start of the school year and during the year with the help of printer paper.
The hope is to give each student enough supplies for the year and help them stay organized from day one in order to be successful at school. We truly appreciate your support in making sure our students get everything they need to have a great start to their school year!
