My students need school supplies and incentives for a great year! Having these supplies will ease some of the stress my students feel on the first day of school. They will be prepared for every class!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of kids from all over the world - literally! As an ESOL teacher, I work with students who second language is English. Many come to me shy, a little scared and nervous, yet eager to learn. At times, they speak little to no English and are placed into classrooms where only English is spoken. Imagine how difficult that would be!
Even with these challenges, they are strong young men and women who realized the value and importance of a strong education.
They work harder, study longer, and push themselves to be the best they can be. As hard as middle school already is for kids this age, my students embrace their differences and celebrate the success of one another. They are an inspiration to me!
My Project
School supplies may seem like a simple request, but for my students it means the world. They enter classes with long lists of what they need and don't always understand. By having some of the things they need, I can help them be prepared and ready to learn for each class. In addition, we use the composition notebooks, pens, highlighters and other supplies for journal writing. It is simply amazing to see the difference from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.
I also like to have small incentives for my students.
And of course, candy is always a crowd pleaser! These are small rewards they receive for working hard and doing their best. Their eyes light up and sometimes they hold on to that piece of candy like it's gold! It is rewarding for me as well, to see how proud they are of themselves when we acknowledge all the effort they put into their school work.
