Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a second year teacher who teaches amazing 2nd graders in the Atlanta community! My students are predominately latino(a) and are also English Language Learners.
The words "English Language Learners" and "Low Socioeconomic Status" carry a very negative connotation.
My students are labeled under these two titles in the educational world. Many people believe that students who speak two languages are not capable of learning and being successful, while I believe that using your first language benefits your second language acquisition. Being bilingual is a positive thing and these students have that wonderful asset!
My Project
We will be heading back to school soon in a hybrid model and are in need of more PPE for our classroom in order to keep students and myself safe. We are in need of kids masks, paper towel, and disinfectant.
We have been back in our classroom only for testing so far and cleaning supplies is quickly being used.
Any small amount would be greatly appreciated by myself, my students and their families. It is my goal to ensure that students are learning in a clean and safe environment.
