This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into class every day full of wonder, full of energy, and full of resilience. Each day in the classroom is a chance to shine and start fresh no matter what outside distractions may await them at home or in their community. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.

I teach at a Title I school in Massachusetts, where 61% percent of our students are considered economically disadvantaged.

A handful of students receive food for the weekend and we have Catie's Closet on hand for students that need clothing. We have students from a variety of backgrounds. We have students that have just arrived in the United States, special education students, students with visual and auditory deficits, and students with trauma. My students are so much more than these descriptions. These amazing kids just want a chance, a glimpse into a future where they are allowed to dream big!

My Project

These supplies will be responsible for adding a little color and excitement to our in-person kids' daily lives. I will almost have enough supplies for 3 full classrooms, so students will get individual "fun" bags they can use to complete assignments and socially distance. The mesh bags will be used to store supplies and can be disinfected to provide the extra layer of security that is needed in our current times.

These "fun" bags will add the extra wow factor that our kids desperately need after a full year of remote learning!
