My students are hungry for the chance to learn and innovate. My school is in a high poverty district, but you wouldn't know it from the smiles that make their way into my class each day. Students are literally stuffing their breakfast bars in their happy cheeks, while attacking morning math the moment they step through the threshold. My kids come excited to learn; whether they are one of my newcomers from the Middle East, gifting me with flowers because they are so grateful to be here, or one of my students with PTSD who took an important step towards trust and wrote me a note to let me know she likes me so far. Each one of my students is a capable, excited learner even though they may have some obstacle that may be in front of them. The best thing we do for each other is give second chances and persevere. I see their desire and it is what pushes me every day to be better. They deserve it!
