Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My inquisitive students come from a low socioeconomic area where access to hands-on materials in their homes is very limited. My school also has limited funding for these materials, whether they be for math, literacy, science, or art. Consequently, my students have lacked these essentials during this pandemic.

My students all receive free lunch, and some come from foster homes.

My classroom is one of the only places where their thirst for exploring is met. Therefore, I strive to foster an environment where all their questions have an answer or create new questions to explore.

My second graders are a highly inquisitive bunch of thoughtful thinkers. Having materials in my classroom is essential to cultivating a rich learning environment. I love to see that glint in their eye after they figure out a solution.

My Project

All of my students are coming back to school. Many lack supplies during this time. I am requesting basic school and wellness supplies for my students. These supplies will be used in the classroom for their activities. The wellness supplies will be used to calm students that have anxiety about coming back to class in an in-person setting.

These materials offer a lifeline of creating a comfortable environment and lessen anxiety during a stress-filled year.

Fidget toys, for example, provided students with a tactile object they can manipulate in order to ease anxiety and nervousness. Other supplies that I wish to buy are folders and pencil cases in order to provide them with organization tools that I use in the classroom.
