Help me give my students ink for our classroom printer, dividers for student script organization, dowels for prop creation, and a charger cable for scriptwriting devices.
My students love exploring classic playwrights and important historical events and want to put on an engaging and visually appealing production! Have you ever been lost in a play? Maybe it evoked happiness or sadness, or perhaps it inspired you to change. However you felt, the common thread was that you did, in fact, feel something.
My middle school drama students are the most incredibly hardworking, compassionate, diverse group of young people, and, boy, do they have a voice!
They come from varied learning, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; they all bring their own special magic to the stage.
My Project
We work hard to perform cross-curricular pieces that help both us and our audience grow. On their own accord, my students have created some beautiful minimalist one-acts, and their dream is to perform a larger scale production of a more professional quality. These supplies will add to the program and what we can accomplish as a class. The ink for printing student-written scripts, charger cable for charging scriptwriting devices, dividers for student script organization, and dowels for prop creation will be used for a play that takes place during the American Revolution, making theater both meaningful and relevant to what they are currently learning in their history classrooms! This program and group of young people is so very special. Erin Grewel ("Freedom Writers" teacher) even wrote a letter to them urging them to "Tell what needs to be told... because everyone has a story!"
Despite facing many obstacles, my students are kind, enthusiastic and eager to learn.
They deserve a stellar production value to match their hard work and talent. The ultimate goal will be to continue to celebrate theater as art in our school community. These basic supplies will help with our productions at school in addition to bringing with us to perform free shows to enrich the arts at the elementary and community levels!
