Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school in Corona, Queens. 57% of the population are English Language Learners and 22% are students with special needs. We are a fifth grade ICT classroom with 29 students.

Our students are respectful, independent, and hard working.

They try their best every day despite the challenges that they may be facing at home. They are wonderful examples of leaders and are always volunteering to help others.

It takes many resources to provide these students with the education that they deserve. Any help from you would be greatly appreciated!!

My Project

Our school uses the Teachers College Curriculum for Reading and Writing. A big part of TC is Post-Its! The students read and stop and jot on post-its to collect their ideas about their books. We also tape and glue charts and notes in their notebooks for them to reference when they need support.

We also use Post-Its in Math to collect data from the lesson.

The students collect their points from the check questions so that we know who needs a reteach, who is on level, and who is advanced. We also tape and glue charts and notes in their notebooks for them to use when doing their homework and to study.

The students brought in these supplies at the beginning of the year but they are used so often that we are almost out within two months of school. We would really appreciate your support in replenishing these basic items.
