My Students

I teach seventh and eighth grade math students in the common core curriculum, at the only public junior high school in our community.

As part of a Title One school, many of our students are from very low-income or poverty households.

They are faced with several challenges in and out of the classroom and many do not have access to a computer or the internet at home.

This year has been one of rebuilding for our community, as we were in the middle of the Thomas Fire. Several of our students lost their homes to the fire last December.

Despite the challenges, our community, school and students have really pulled together to support each other. I want to provide them basic materials they need to be successful now and in the future.

My Project

Help me provide basic materials for my economically disadvantaged students. Approximately half of our student population are on free and reduced lunch and cannot afford even the most basic supplies for school. Please help me provide students with notebooks, pencils, erasers, and cleaning wipes to keep our tables clean.

Your contribution will not only provide students the needed materials, but help them feel prepared for learning and supported at the most basic level.

Many of my students are hard working, and have excellent math abilities, but struggle because their families do not have the means to provide even pencil and paper. This project would allow me to give them the materials they need for the rest of the school year. It will directly improve student focus, confidence and increase their academic achievement.
